и еще пожалуйста конфигурацию компьютера. Потому что заикания характерны для воскрешенных пентиум3 с 256 мб памяти. при переключении между гтк приложениями
гиг оперативы, проц 2 ядра по 2.8 core 2duo, достаточно для звука.блин
на бубунте все норм работало))))

Поделюсь своим опытом.
У самого стоит x64 (и это важно, поскольку на x86 таких проблем ни у кого не было). Безумно хрипел скайп. Помогла только установка pulseaudio.
у меня тупит везде.
прием если погромче делать
стоит alsa
но после того, как я поставил alsa, я поставил gnome..и при запуске собсна gnoma я обнаружил икания и попытался поставить pulse, и он был поставлен!!!!!! мож из-за этого??

звук есть, работает, все хорошо…
но он хрипит..как-будто икает!!!!

Тогда покажите, что у Вас в
/etc/inittab
/etc/rc.conf
~/.xinitrc
ну и в /etc/slim.conf, что бы по сто раз не переспрашивать.
Желательно именно в том состоянии, при котором возникает проблема.

загружаю slim через inittab, после его успешной загрузки логинюсь, а он вновь загружает слим
xinitrc - там и с ck-launch-session и без пытался, не в этом дело
dbus запускаю
в логах слим ругается, что xfce4 не может открыть окно, мол x сервер уже запущен
Покажите вывод cat /etc/slim.conf | grep login_cmd

А попробуйте убрать slim, грузитесь в level 3. Потом вручную startx. Скорее всего, здесь увидите, почему иксы не грузятся.
